University of Idaho Student Killings
Four University of Idaho students—Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin—were killed in Moscow on Nov. 13, 2022. Bryan C. Kohberger pleaded guilty July 2, 2025, and on July 23, 2025, received four consecutive life terms without parole plus 10 years for burglary.

Murder of Laci Peterson
Laci Peterson, 27 and eight months pregnant, disappeared from Modesto on Dec. 24, 2002. Scott Lee Peterson was convicted in 2004 of murdering Laci and their unborn son Conner; his death sentence was reversed in 2020 and he was resentenced to LWOP in 2021.

Murder of Michelle Schofield
Michelle Schofield was killed in Lakeland in February 1987. Husband Leo was convicted in 1989; he maintains innocence. Car fingerprints later matched Jeremy Scott, who confessed then recanted. Leo was paroled in 2024; the conviction stands.
