On 27 Jan 1993 Sian Simmonds was shot and bludgeoned in the Guildford basement suite in Surrey, British Columbia, that she shared with her sister Katie. Katie was not home. Sian was 19, the day before her 20th birthday. Josephakis Charalambous, a doctor the sisters had complained about, was later convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with no parole for 25 years. His appeal was dismissed. He was still serving that sentence as of a January 2025 parole denial.
