Sabina Nessa was a 28-year-old primary school teacher in Lewisham. On the evening of 17 Sep 2021, she left her home in Kidbrooke, south-east London, to walk through Cator Park to meet a friend. She was attacked and killed by a stranger, Koci Selamaj, who struck her unconscious with a traffic triangle and dragged her into long grass. Her body was found the next afternoon. Selamaj was arrested in Eastbourne on 26 Sep 2021 and charged with murder. At the Old Bailey, he pleaded guilty to murder on 25 Feb 2022, accepting the attack was sexually motivated. On 8 Apr 2022, he was sentenced in his absence to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 36 years.
